The Investiture ceremony took place on December 20, 2010 at the Palais des Sports of Ouaga 2000 before a crowd of dignitaries including many Heads of State and Government and the Burkinabe people who turned out in large numbers to show their support for their President.
For the President of Burkina Faso, this ceremony will remain a significant landmark in the political history of the country because the people of Burkina Faso manifested their confidence in his vision of society, and have decided to engage with him to build in faith, confidence and hope, a better future for their country. |

The 50th Independence Day of Burkina Faso was celebrated on December 11, 2010 at Bobo-Dioulasso, the economic capital of the country. The rich and colourful ceremony was well attended by 11 African heads of state, namely, the Presidents of Senegal, Mali, Benin, Togo, Gabon, Rwanda, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Congo Brazzaville and Mauritania.
A total of 23 countries in Africa, Europe and Asia were represented at the ceremony.
In his message on the occasion H.E. Mr. Blaise Compaorés thanked his colleagues Heads of State for the expression of their solidarity and paid a glowing tribute to the daughters and sons of Burkina Faso who fought for the accession to independence of the former Upper Volta on August 5, 1960. He also appreciated the very important work of his predecessors as the head of the country. |

| H.E. Mr. Blaise Compaoré was re-elected as President of Burkina Faso for another five (05) years during the Presidential elections that were held on November 21, 2010. The results of the elections were announced by the Constitutional Council on December 7, 2010. Out of the seven candidates who were contesting these elections Mr. Blaise Compaoré received 80.15% (357, 315 votes) of the votes cast. |

| The President of Burkina Faso, Mr. Blaise Compaoré, participated in the 38th Summit meeting of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, which was held on July 2, 2010 on Sal Island in Cape Verde. The main agenda was the decision of the eminent leaders to harmonize their views to meet the challenge of development. The policy and action plan was aimed at significantly improving the living standard of the citizens of the region by 2030.The discussions were chaired by the Chairman of the community, the Nigerian President Mr. Good luck Ebele JONATHAN. One of the highlights of the session was the swearing in of Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS. |

This special session focused on strategic directions and priorities, funding for the strategic framework to fight against AIDS and its modes of implementation (international framework and organizational strategy, monitoring and evaluation, analysis and risk management). |

| The Mogho Naaba Baongo was crowned "King of Peace" on May 27, 2010 by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), which is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN). It was part of the Africa day celebration on May 25, 2010 for the promotion of peace initiated by the African Union. |

Africa has lost the most important representative of its cinema and culture. On 17th April 2010 Sotigui Kouyaté breathed his last in Paris. He was suffering from a lung disease. Born on 19th July 1936 at Bamako, Mali; Sotigui Kouyaté was originally from Guinea before he was adopted by Burkina Faso.
He was a multifaceted and talented personality. He was a professional footballer who played for the Upper Volta (present Burkina Faso) team. In the sixties he directed his talent towards cinema
and theater. He has acted in numerous noteworthy films such as Jean-Jacques Beineix’s ''IP5 - The island of pachyderms'', with Yves Montand (1991),''Golem, the Spirit of Exile by Amos Gitai (1992),''Fallen from the sky” by Philippe Lioret (1994),''The Master of the Elephants” by Patrick Grandperret (1995),''Genesis'' by Cheick Oumar Sissoko (1995) with the famous musician Salif Keita and seasoned actors such as fire Keita Balla Moussa, Habib Dembele, Richard Bouchareb’s ''Little Senegal (2002),''Black Mic Mac (1986) by Thomas Gilou. Sotigui Kouyate has been as admirable in such works as ''Keita, the heritage of the Griot''(1995) and ''Sia, le rêve du python' 'all feature films of his son Dani Kouyaté (2001). The latter film won six awards at the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco).
In the field of Indian culture promotion, he has portrayed a very important character in the Mahabharata, the great Hindu epic as interpreted by the British playwright Peter Brook.

His renown was continental and he was also very well respected in international cinema. He received many awards for his work and was a true ambassador of Africa and a source of pride for all Africans. With his passing away Africa has lost one of its most illustrious sons. May he rest in peace.

On April 17 the Sports Palace in Ouagadougou was a place packed with fans and adrenalin as the action packed finals of the 26th Africa Handball Cup came to a nail biting finish. Petro Athletico in ladies and Zamalek in the men won the titles. They respectively defeated the Armed Forces and Police (AFP) from Cameroon and Angola in the Interclub.
The finals were attended by the Godmother of handball Madam Chantal COMPAORE, the First Lady of Burkina Faso who congratulated and thanked the teams for their spectacular performance. |

For the first time in history the group of African Ambassadors residing in Burkina Faso visited the Moogho Naaba Baongho, the Emperor of Mosse on April 16, 2009 to receive the blessings of a symbol of their host country and to soak in the functioning of the Mossi kingdom.
The Moogho Naaba Baongho welcomed the initiative of African ambassadors residing in Burkina Faso. "This strengthens the cooperation, integration between peoples and I hope that the African peoples like their ambassadors here strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship," suggested the 37th emperor of Mosse. |

| Inata gold mine: Production activities launched |

On the morning of April 8, 2010, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso Mr. Tertius ZONGO officially launched the production of the Gold mine in the province of Inata Soum. This mine has come into production two years from the start of its construction and with a potential of about 944 000 ounces of Gold it is the fifth largest mine in Burkina Faso.
Prime Minister Tertius Zongo emphasized the importance of our mineral resources which are expanding the opportunities for wealth creation for our country and increasing job opportunities for our people.
Minister Abdul Kader Cisse in charge of Mines, Quarries and Energy said that Essakane would start production in September 2010 with a rate of 10 tonnes of gold annually and thus increase our production from 11.7 tonnes in December 2009 to 22 tonnes of gold from December 2010. |

On 8 April 2010 the Burkinabe President, Blaise Compaoré visited Cotonou, Benin where he was given a state welcome at the airport by Yahi BONI President of Benin.
In the evening during a dinner hosted by the Benin President, Blaise Compaoré was accorded the Beninese distinction of "Dignity of Grand Cross of the National Order of Benin".
During a working session of the two Presidents and their delegates Benin reaffirmed its readiness to once again welcome Burkinabe traders at the port of Cotonou. The concerned authorities and President Yahi Boni himself reassured the Presidential delegation of Burkina Faso the readiness of political and the Beninese port authorities for a return of the Burkinabe economic operators on the Benin corridor. The President of Burkina Faso reaffirmed the readiness of the Burkinabe traders to revive relations with the port of Cotonou if the facilities that were announced materialize. |

The Burundian President Pierre N'KURUNZIZA was in Burkina Faso on April 6, 2010 on a 72 hour goodwill visit. On his arrival he was welcomed by the President of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaoré. President Pierre N'KURUNZIZA said that he came to thank President Blaise Compaoré who visited Bujumbura during the most trying times to encourage the people of Burundi to find peace. |

| Abdoulaye Abdoul Kader CISSE, Minister of Mines, Quarries and Energy said in an interview that traces of oil and uranium have been found in Burkina Faso. He said that research is underway to determine if they are present in sufficient quantities that can be industrially exploited. The government has already received fifty applications for permits to explore Uranium and the process is already in progress to grant these permits. He added that there was a possibility that in the next two years Burkina Faso, in addition to Manganese and Gold could also have Uranium. |

On January 22, 2010, the head of state, President Blaise Compaoré, officially inaugurated the International Bus Station at Bobo-Dioulasso and the dry port at the western exit of the city of Sya. The opening ceremony was attended by the port communities of Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo and elite businessmen of the country.
The dry port at Bobo-Dioulasso has officially opened its gates to trucks, cars and other tanks in transit to Burkina. Partly because of the dry port name (in a landlocked country), the project of the international bus terminal in Bobo has generated much interest even outside of the domain of business and transporters. |
